Hometown
A fabric shop on Rochester High Street offering colourful textiles, sewing materials and regular workshops.
Hometown sits along the High Street in Rochester as a space defined by colour, craft and the steady rhythm of making.
Inside, shelves of fabric rise from floor to ceiling, arranged in tonal order rather than strict category. Soft neutrals sit alongside bold florals, Liberty prints and simple plains, each placed with a quiet sense of balance. It’s a shop that feels both full and considered, where materials are not just displayed but part of an ongoing process.
Large central tables hold neatly stacked fabrics, patterns and tools, giving the space the feel of a working studio rather than a traditional retail interior. Around the shop, quilts, garments and homeware pieces offer a glimpse of what can be made, each one acting as a quiet point of inspiration.
Founded by Marion Haslam in 2008, Hometown brings together a background in global retail and a long-standing practice in quilting. That experience shapes both the selection of materials and the way the shop functions day to day, balancing practicality with creativity.
Workshops form an important part of the space. Regular sessions introduce beginners to sewing and quilting, while others return to build on existing skills. Over time, this has created a small but steady community centred around making, where people come not only to buy materials but to spend time learning and creating.
Set within the rhythm of Rochester High Street, Hometown reflects the quieter side of independent retail. A place to browse slowly, gather ideas and return to, where making is part of the everyday.
